Book Review: “We Were Liars”

Looking for a quick, mysterious, romantic, psychological read?  Teenagers (and adults), this is for you.

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart won’t bore you.  Sometimes it’s nice to have a story about a teenage girl who is struggling with…what?  Exactly.

One more perplexing question: What were she and her friends lying about?  It’s all part of the mystery.  But the thing is, how could they get by with doing something like this?  The answer is at the end of the book.

Speaking of the ending, readers who enjoy plot twists will not want this book to end.  As previously mentioned, it’s all part of the mystery, even to the main character…

Lockhart’s writing style is sleek, choppy, quick, precise.  He reels you in, breathless, and dying for more, but makes you keep reading in order to quench your thirst.  His style sets a dark, secretive tone, adding to the twisted issues some of these characters have.

To be teenagers, the young adults sneak their way above everyone’s prestigious manners.  Their revenge, however, leaves a nasty scar.  For readers craving a haunting, bewildering piece of YA literature, We Were Liars is waiting for you.
